... I'm lucky to work for SmartBoating as the webmaster and internet marketing consultant. I have a sailing background also. As a child I began sailing at a very young age. We spent every school holiday and most weekends in a tiny place called Stone on the River Blackwater in Essex, UK. The estuary was muddy, the sky was grey and the water was cold, but I had fantastic times on the water. I had a little clinker built gunter rigged dinghy called Sheila. I used sail to (or row if there was no wind) across to Osea island and spend my days digging in the mud for cockles and watching the yachts go by. I always dreamed of being on a yacht one day. We also had a Day Boat and we used to take family trips up or down the estuary (depending on the tide). Most outings involved a visit to a pub on route. I remember loving the salt and vinegar chips and lemonade. My other childhood love was horses and this lead me to my first career. I studied veterinary science at Liverpool University and then worked as a vet for 15 years on the South Coast of England. During that time I enjoyed some fantastic sailing holidays in Greece and Croatia and the occasional trip out from Brighton marina. In 2007 I decided to swap my sometimes stressful career for a new life in Australia. I re-trained in web design, HTML and CSS, internet marketing and social media marketing and joined the SmartBoating team as webmaster and internet marketing consultant in 2009. I've written 2 new websites for SmartBoating including all the content and I write the monthly newsletters. It's lovely to be part of such a happy team working around and sometimes on the awesome environment of Pittwater.
